Energy, Chemical Process Industries & Hydrogen

The global supplier of choice for the energy and chemical process industries.

Stainless, the Material of Choice

As a reliable and sustainable material, Aperam stainless steels, including our Duplex grades, are used across the energy chain – from the offshore wells of the oil and gas industry to hot water tanks coupled with solar panels. Stainless steel’s high corrosion resistance also makes it an ideal material for the chemical and petrochemical sectors.

Applications

Water Treatment

Applications used for water treatment demand a durable material.

Water Treatment

Applications used for water treatment demand a durable material that can withstand the corrosiveness of water, liquids and salt. That material is duplex stainless steel. Thanks to its excellent strength, corrosion resistance, long life-span, and cost effectiveness, the benefits of using duplex stainless steel far exceed the initial costs of investment.

Desalination

Low maintenance, long life – that’s the benefit of stainless.

Desalination

The benefits of using stainless steel for desalination and water treatment applications far exceed the initial costs of investment. That’s because with stainless steel one not only saves on maintenance and repair costs, stainless steel also has an exceptionally long lifespan.

Pulp & Paper

The right combination of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.

Pulp & Paper

The paper making process is known for its extreme and corrosive conditions. Aperam duplex (DX2304, DX2205) and austenitic (304, 304L, 310S, 316L) stainless steels offer the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength that the Pulp & Paper industry demands.

Mining

A seven-fold increase in lifespan.

Mining

The abrasive, highly corrosive conditions of mines can wreak havoc on minecarts. That’s why many mining companies are making the shift to stainless steel minecarts and wagons. Offering excellent corrosion resistance, stainless steel can withstand the extreme conditions of a mine and the wear and tear of mining. As a result, stainless steel minecarts outlast – and outperform – carts made from other materials.

Oil & Gas

Corrosion resistance and versatility

Oil & Gas

The oil and gas industries depend on stainless steel’s excellent corrosion resistance and versatility. The industry regularly uses Aperam’s DX2304 and DX2205 duplex stainless steels for flexible piping applications, while our 304, 304L, 316L and 317L austenitic stainless steels are used with refinery applications.

Transportation & Storage of Hydrogen

Hydrogen application

Transportation & Storage of Hydrogen

Hydrogen is the fuel of the future. When turned into electricity, only water is emitted – making hydrogen a carbon-free fuel. However, one of the main challenges related to hydrogen is its storage and transport.Hydrogen must be either compressed at high pressure or liquefied; Storing liquid hydrogen must be done at cryogenic temperatures, which in turn require a high-strength, ductile, fatigue resistant, and weldable material, stainless steel …

Cryogeny

High performance in very low temperatures.

Cryogeny

Although all types of stainless steel are corrosion resistant, austenitic stainless steels are particularly well-suited for cryogenic applications. Not only can they resist contact with liquefied gases without any brittle effect, they also have a low thermal conductivity. Another option is nitrogen alloyed materials which, thanks to their intrinsically higher mechanical strength, help reduce the weight of cryogenic equipment.

Anemometric Towers

The material of choice for anemometric towers.

Anemometric Towers

The anemometric towers used on wind farms need to be able to withstand severe weather conditions. Thanks to its high corrosion resistance, using stainless steel can extend a tower’s lifespan fourfold. Stainless steel anemometric towers also require significantly less maintenance and repairs and they’re easier to manufacture than galvanized or weathering steel towers.

Biogas

The material of choice for biogas processing equipment.

Biogas

Biogas is one of the most attractive sources of renewable energy. It mitigates the growing problem of waste disposal, is cost competitive without subsidies, and produces energy that can be either used locally or fed into the electricity grid. Stainless steel has proven to improve the reliability and efficiency of biogas plants, making it the material of choice for biogas processing equipment.

Norsok approval

Aperam has received NORSOK approval (M-650 & M-630) for its DX2507 (EN 1.4410/ASTM S32750) superduplex grade in flat stainless steel products (up to 8mm thick in 1.5m wide for hot-rolled coils and sheets and up to 5.6mm in 1.5m wide for cold-rolled material).
