Sterling Heights, Michigan, the only Aperam owned specialty flat rolled stainless steel processing centre in North America, services the United States, Canada and Mexico. Founded in 1969 in Detroit as Hague Steel, the centre has always operated under the philosophy of providing consistent quality and services to its customers. The centre was acquired by the French company Ugine in 1985. With the investment of a new slitter in 2004, the centre began operating as Arcelor Stainless Processing. Similar changes happened in 2008, when another custom blanking line was added and, following the merger of Arcelor with Mittal Steel, the centre operated as ArcelorMittal Stainless Service USA. Following the spin-off of ArcelorMittal’s stainless division in 2011, the centre has worked under the Aperam banner. Most recently, a wet coil polishing line was added in 2013.
Today, Aperam’s US centre specialises in surface critical material (bright annealed, polished and rolled on), Ferritic, converting austenitic (300/200 series) to Ferritic (400 series), and deep draw quality. Our processes produce precision slit coils and blanks, with a focus on the appliance, automotive, stamping/drawing/forming and industrial manufacturing markets. We take pride in meeting customer demand with the best production supply chain backed by efficient processing, technical development and value-added cost reduction.
