Architecture, Building & Construction

The go-to material for building and construction projects everywhere.

Thanks to its durability, corrosion resistance, and ease-of-use, stainless steel is particularly well-suited for the building and construction industry. In fact, it’s the material of choice for such architectural applications as roofs, facades, rainwater recovery systems, domestic water pipes, swimming pools, bridges and pedestrian bridges, and interior décor. Stainless steel’s longevity and the fact that it is 100% recyclable fulfills the requirements of sustainable construction. And thanks to a wide range of available finishes, it’s extremely aesthetic too!

Applications

Roofing

Freedom of form, flexibility in appearance.

Roofing

Providing freedom of form and flexibility in appearance, a stainless steel roof blends into all types of environments and is well-suited to all styles of architecture – both new and renovation projects. Not only is stainless steel long-lasting, easy to maintain and recyclable, it can also be used with a variety of construction systems.

Façades

Defining a building’s visual aesthetic.

Façades

Stainless steel offers a number of benefits that makes it the material of choice for roofing and cladding. For example, thanks to high mechanical properties that permit a reduction in thickness, stainless steel has a lighter envelope. It’s also more cost-effective than traditional products and techniques and is compatible with all types of support and with construction systems that require specific thermal properties and/or acoustics.

Urban Furniture

The material of choice for urban furniture everywhere.

Urban Furniture

Cities are using urban furniture to make public spaces and parks more enjoyable. Whether it be a bench, table, garbage bin, garden, bus stop or decorative sculpture, these applications demand a material that is durable, cost-efficient, hygienic and aesthetically pleasing. That material is stainless steel.

Swimming Pools

The material of choice for safe swimming pools.

Swimming Pools

Did you know stainless steel can make swimming safer? That’s because stainless steel offers better corrosion resistance than traditional materials like tile and concrete. As a result, stainless steel pools are less likely to leak and have a lower risk for bacterial growth. They’re also easier to clean and maintain.

Concrete Trucks

Increase durability, decrease weight.

Concrete Trucks

Concrete is notorious for quickly wearing down cement truck components. That’s why these trucks are turning to the durability of stainless steel. But using stainless steel components not only increases a truck’s lifespan, it does so while reducing its weight. In one project, the use of AISI 410S stainless steel plates and ENDUR 300 in the internal mixing blades led to an impressive 1,100 kg reduction in weight.

Lifts & Elevators

A durable material for high-use lifts, elevators and escalators.

Lifts & Elevators

By their nature, lifts, elevators and escalators are subjected to a significant amount of mechanical stress and user-caused damage. That’s why they demand a material that can withstand all sorts of wear and tear. That material is stainless steel. Because of its durability, long lifespan and ease-of-use, stainless steel is regularly used in lift cabins, press plates, doors and panels.

Ornamental Tubes

Advantages that architects appreciate.

Ornamental Tubes

Stainless steel tubes bring a number of key advantages to the table, including aesthetic appeal, cost-effectiveness, durability and corrosion resistance. They’re also incredibly easy to maintain and clean. As a result, stainless steel tubes are the material of choice for a range of interior décor and architectural projects.

Sinks

For durable, easy-to-clean and aesthetically appealing sinks.

Sinks

Thanks to its durability, ease-of-cleaning and aesthetic appeal, stainless steel is the material of choice for domestic and industrial sinks. Aperam’s 430 grade of ferritic stainless steel and our 304 grade of austenitic stainless steel are both well-suited for these types of applications, with the choice coming down to the design and depth of the application and the level of corrosion resistance required.

Window Spacers

A stainless steel alternative to aluminum spacer bars.

Window Spacers

The aluminum spacer bars typically used by builders to prevent heat from escaping through windowpanes tend to do a better job facilitating heat loss than they do preventing it. That’s why many builders are using warm edge spacers made from stainless steel. Stainless steel offers excellent thermal performance, extends a window’s lifespan and helps control indoor climate.

Hand Tools

A material that meets customer needs

Hand Tools

Plastering trowels, palette knives and the trowels used by decorators are just a couple examples of the many everyday hand tools made from hardened austenitic or tempered martensitic stainless steel. These tools use stainless steel because of its high hardness (42 – 47 HRC) and superb resistance to corrosion and abrasion.

Swimming pools

As you’re relaxing in the pool, chances are you’re thinking about beating the heat and not stainless steel. But did you know stainless steel can make your swim safer? That’s because stainless steel offers better corrosion resistance than traditional materials. As a result, stainless steel pools are less likely to leak and have a lower risk for bacterial growth. They’re also easier to clean and maintain.

Miriam Makéba School

Wanting to ensure that the new school satisfied the city’s commitment to sustainable building, architects decided to use stainless steel – which is 100% recyclable. With a façade clad in Aperam’s Uginox 304 grade, the building has a uniquely bright finish that brings a touch of sparkle to the surrounding neighbourhood.

Engraved finishes

The construction and interior design sectors demand innovative, durable and aesthetic solutions – and stainless steel fits the bill. To meet this demand, Aperam has a range of engraved, or textured, stainless steel products. But these textures offer more than just an aesthetical touch. They also enhance the material’s durability, making it the perfect solution for such high-use applications as the inside of an elevator or a subway station.

Uginox Patina

Our Uginox Patina range consists of tin-coated stainless steels that weather over time. This weathering results in a matt finish that is highly valued for roofing applications, while the tin tones down stainless steel’s natural luster and facilities its assimilation into all types of environments. The tin coating is also environmentally inert and maintains its stainless properties. Uginox Patina is produced using K41 (1.4509) and K44 (1.4521) ferritic stainless steels.
