Aerospace
To help reduce air and noise pollution and to lower costs, manufacturers are looking to reduce the weight of aircraft.
Iron Cobalt alloys help reduce both space and weight by offering powerful solutions for sensors, generators and motors. Indirectly, INVAR plates reduce weight through the manufacturing of moulds for lighter weight composite parts. Today, more than 80% of an aircraft's structural parts are made of carbon composites.

Actuators and Transformers
- Iron Cobalt are key materials to answering the requirement to eliminate superfluous weight and volumes. Superalloys are key materials for their excellent mechanical strength and temperature resistance.
Defence Equipment
- Alloys are used for the manufacturing of very accurate telescope and optical systems for specific satellites. Due to a thermal expansion that is very close to that offered by carbon composites, INVAR is also used in the junction rings situated between a missile's propulsion and active sections.
Engines and Turbines
- Iron Cobalt are key materials to answering the requirement to eliminate superfluous weight in turbines and engines. Superalloys are key materials for their excellent mechanical strength and temperature resistance.
Fasteners
- Superalloys grades are available when high strength, high temperature and close tolerance applications are required.
Generators and Motors
- Iron Cobalt are key materials to answering the requirement to eliminate superfluous weight and volumes. Superalloys are key materials for their excellent mechanical strength and temperature resistance.
Landing Gears
Iron Cobalt alloys contribute to such critical sub-systems as landing gears. The challenge is to ensure safe and robust devices that also meet weight and cost efficiency requirements.
Moulds
The low thermal expansion of INVAR® and its curve of dimensional variation during cooling from composites curing temperature (180°C) is the key point for the manufacturing of composite parts with a perfect dimensional accuracy in the order of 0.1 millimetre. Additionally, its good weldability and mechinability allow for low cost manufacturing and ensure the long lifespan of the INVAR moulds.
