Aperam produces medium- and high-carbon steels. Available as hot rolled coil, these steels are available in widths between 980 mm and 1,500 mm and a thickness ranging from 2.0 mm to 12.70 mm.
To meet even the most stringent of specifications, Aperam has developed steels offering chemical composition ranges more restricted – or different – than those established by national (ABNT/NBR) and foreign (ASTM, DIN, SAE, etc.) standards. We developed these steels with a number of special characteristics to meet the specific requirements of our customer while also meeting general market needs.
Medium Carbon Steel
Medium carbon steels are those with the following carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus and sulphur contents:
• Silicon (Si): 0.60% maximum;
• Manganese (Mn): 1.65% maximum;
• Carbon (C): greater than or equal to 0,30% and less than or equal to 0.50%.
Medium carbon steels fall within the SAE 1031 to SAE 1050 series.
High Carbon Steel
High carbon steels are those with the following carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus and sulphur :
• Silicon (Si): 0.60% maximum;
• Manganese (Mn): 1.65% maximum;
• Carbon (C): Carbon content above 0.50%.
High carbon steels fall within the SAE 1055 to SAE 1095 series.
Bonded Steel
In addition to carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus and sulphur, bonded steel specifies such elements as chromium, nickel, molybdenum, vanadium, boron, etc.
